The International Alphorn Festival
The biggest gathering in Switzerland
At an altitude of 2,200m, the setting of Tracouet has been the enchanting stage of the 10th International Alp horn Festival that took place in Nendaz on 20rd, 21th and 22th July 2012.
Over the course of the weekend, this alpine instrument will be the motivation for the meeting of players of many different nationalities, all brought together by the same love of the mountain, tradition and folklore. The11th festival will be the 20nd, 21rd and 22th July 2012.
A sign of social interaction
This festival is seen as a friendly and social occasion. It is the ideal occasion for players to share their experiences, to discover new musical scores, to learn to understand each other, to measure themselves in competition or simply to play surrounded by exceptional scenery. A veritable place of exchange.
Official competition with more than 100 participants
All the players face each other amicably either solo or in a group. The jury, composed of great names in the world of the alphorn and members of the Swiss Federation of Yodellers, judge without bias. A large majority of alphorn players come from the German-speaking part of Switzerland. Nonetheless, a number of different nationalities are represented including; France, Austria, Italy, the USA…
The magic of the ensemble pieces
A huge wave of emotion washes over the spectators during the resonance of the majestic sound of all the players in harmony. A dreamlike semi-circle that makes hearts quiver whilst a flag thrower addresses his homage to the skies.
The alphorn forms part of the traditions that characterise our country, as do chocolate, watches and cheese. Visitors can discover the local country products at the arts and craft market. Productions from folk groups, yodellers, orchestras from the surrounding countryside or bell ringers reveal the traditional aspect of the festival.
